In contrast to deactivating the board, read-only mode keeps your community online to visitors and search engines with only the ability to view content.
Your visitors can browse and search your community and search engines can continue indexing your content and maintain your existing page rankings.
Read-only mode automatically disables registration and works with third-party add-ons. In administrator advanced mode, you can optionally add actions to block.
In read-only mode, only administrators can perform actions other than viewing content and logging in.

Under Admin > Add-ons > Install/upgrade from archive, import/install the attached add-on zip
Navigate to Admin > Setup > Options > Board Active
